Peppermint is the original source of peppermint oil, used in flavouring sweets and ice cream. 
It has dark green oval leaves on red/purple stalks producing purple flowers with a strong, distinctive peppermint scent and flavour.
Recognised to be an excellent source of nectar for bees and other beneficial insects, peppermint is a hardy perennial which is best grown in a container as it likes to spread, it has many culinary and medicinal uses.
